Adult Children of Alcoholics hold a special place in my heart as I was raised in an alcoholic environment.  Author Claudia Black, Ph.D, describes this environment in her book, It Will Never Happen To Me, as one in which children learn to not talk, not trust and not feel.

Not only do children living in alcoholic environments lack stability while growing up, they have difficulty forming stable relationships once outside of the home.  This can lead to confusion, heartache and despair.  Some Adult Children become depressed and seek relief in the same manner as they learned growing up: through alcohol and/or other drugs.
